Long-Distance Towing from San Diego

State-to-state vehicle transport on a flatbed — running or not. One driver, one truck, door to door, with a price quoted before we hook up.

One Truck, One Driver, All the Way There

A long haul is a different job from a tow across town. The vehicle rides for hours, the route has to be planned around weight limits and weather, and the same driver who loads it is the one who unloads it. That is how we run every long-distance job out of San Diego, and it is why nothing gets handed off to a broker or a stranger halfway to Phoenix.

We have been towing across San Diego County since 1996. Long-distance work grew out of that: customers who trusted us for a breakdown on the I-8 started calling when they needed a car moved to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix or across the country. If you want the background on equipment and timing, our guide to long-distance towing from San Diego covers it in detail.

When People Book a Long-Distance Tow

Four situations account for most of the calls.

A breakdown far from home

A car quits on a road trip and cannot be repaired locally. Rather than pay for a rushed repair in an unfamiliar shop, the vehicle rides home to a mechanic you already trust.

Relocations

Moving out of state and only one person can drive. The second vehicle goes on the truck instead of adding several hundred miles and a week of wear to it.

Auction and dealer purchases

A car bought at a San Diego auction or dealership that needs to reach a buyer in another city. We deliver to homes, lots and body shops alike.

Classic, project and non-running vehicles

Restored cars, project builds and anything that has not turned over in years. All four wheels stay off the ground the entire trip, so there is no drivetrain wear and no mileage added.

Snowbird and seasonal moves

Vehicles that shuttle between San Diego and Arizona or Nevada twice a year. Regular customers get the same driver and a standing rate.

Where We Haul

Most long-distance work out of San Diego runs along a handful of corridors. These are the routes we drive most often, with typical one-way distances:

  • Los Angeles & Orange County — 90 to 130 miles, usually same-day.
  • Phoenix & Tucson, AZ — 355 to 410 miles, next-day delivery typical.
  • Las Vegas, NV — about 330 miles.
  • Bakersfield & the Central Valley — 230 to 300 miles.
  • Sacramento & the Bay Area — 500 to 570 miles.
  • Farther out — we quote cross-country hauls case by case. Ask.

Pickup anywhere in the county is included in the quote. If you are not sure we cover your starting point, the service areas page lists every neighborhood we run.

What Changes the Price

Long-distance jobs are quoted per mile rather than by the hook-up-plus-mileage formula used for local calls, and the per-mile rate drops as the distance grows. Four things move the number:

  • Distance — the single biggest factor.
  • Vehicle size and condition — a non-running truck takes longer to load than a running sedan.
  • Access at both ends — a tight underground garage or a steep private drive adds time.
  • Timing — scheduled hauls cost less than a same-day departure.

We quote the full number before the truck moves. No deposit is taken over the phone. There is more on how pricing works in the towing costs section of our FAQs.

Why It Goes on a Flatbed

For anything past about an hour of driving, a flatbed is the right answer and a wheel-lift is not. With all four wheels on the deck there is no drivetrain wear, no added odometer miles, and no road debris thrown at the bumper for five hours.

Low-clearance cars get wood ramps so the front lip clears the deck. Non-runners come up by winch. Everything is strapped at the wheels rather than the frame, which is what keeps a restored car from picking up a new scratch on the way.

Our full equipment list is on the towing services page, and if the vehicle has been sitting for years, this guide on moving cars out of storage covers what to check first.

How a Long-Distance Job Runs

Four steps, and you know the price before step three.

1. Tell us the two addresses

Pickup and delivery, the year, make and model, and whether it runs. That is everything needed for an accurate quote.

2. Get a firm quote

We price the route and give you the total. If the schedule is flexible we will tell you what waiting a day or two saves.

3. We load it

Flatbed to the pickup address, winch or drive it on, strap at the wheels, photograph the vehicle before we leave.

4. Delivered and signed off

The same driver unloads it and walks the vehicle with whoever receives it. Payment on delivery.

Get a Long-Distance Quote

Tell us where it is and where it needs to be. We will price the haul and tell you the soonest we can be there.
